This week is a great time to bring up the correlation between gratitude and joy. You hear all the big “love your life pundits” talk about keeping gratitude journals and focusing on all that you have in your life that is working. But if you take this one step further, you can really produce miracles in your life. Gratitude is not enough. It’s the act of acknowledging, OUT LOUD, what you are grateful for.
The act of acknowledging those around you, and having conversations about what you are grateful for in your life, has you become more present to the joy in life. This joy becomes infectious and spreads, not only to others, but to other areas of your life. Your “light” attitude starts to shine in darker corners of your life that have previously been ignored.
If you are a person who is committed to being joyful, vivacious and inspired, start with gratitude. Thanksgiving is tomorrow and is a great time to start acknowledging those around you for all that they contribute to your life.
As an experiment, acknowledge someone who would be at the bottom of your list of positive contributors. For instance, acknowledge a co-worker who is not your favorite for something he/she has done recently to make the office a better place… stretch if you have to. Make the acknowledgment genuine and authentic. Make sure they really “get” it and take it in. See how this changes your relationship with them, and how it changes who they are in the office… take the challenge today!
