Every time I turn on the news I hear: AIG needs more bailout money, Big 3 about to go bankrupt, Limbaugh hopes Obama will fail, unemployment soars, Dow at the lowest level since cavemen, highest levels of blah, blah, blah… it’s all so loud, it could drown out possibility for even the best of us. How does an optimist survive in a recession-addicted culture?
STEP 1: Create an environment for success. Surround yourself with inspiration: quotes, poems, flowers, pictures of success, images that motivate you. Keep your desk clean and organized. Have conversations with family and friends about what they are greatful for; what are their deepest dreams? Ask them to frequently ask the same questions of you.
STEP 2: Read your vision letter every day. (What’s a vision letter? See my client resources tab for details on writing one.)
STEP 3: Have a minimum of 5 different conversations each day about what is working in your life, your business or your finances.
STEP 4: Plan to succeed. Turn your vision letter into a Success Plan with specific, measurable results. These intended results will give you committed actions to take to achieve them. Timeblock all of these action items into your planner. Have your planner, calendar, palm pilot, Blackberry, etc. be your “guru” for what’s possible. Don’t veer from the course of your vision, as dictated by your action plan. This way, every day will be given, inherently, by your vision.
STEP 6: Eliminate input that has no bearing on the future you have CREATED for yourself. Turn off the news. Refuse to have economic discussions with members of the “recession mentality herd.” Instead, listen to music, inspirational books on tape, something positive… educate yourself to success.
These 6 steps are easy to implement. If you follow them judiciously, you will not only spare yourself the misery of 95% of society right now, but you will also produce results that people around you will find unattainable. The more possibility you speak, the more opportunities you will create.
Success is an extension of what we are saying, who we are being and the actions we are taking in our day-to-day lives. If you live consistent with your vision, you will create that vision in the world; regardless of the conversation the rest of the “herd” is having.
