Self care is vitally important. Think of your energy like a tank… you wouldn’t try to drive cross country on one tank of gas, however, every day we try to live our lives without stopping to refill our tanks. Putting myself before others has always been really difficult, even when I know that I am running on empty. I know that if I’m going to be mentally strong enough to fight back against all of the things that distract and seduce me from my goals, I have to be vigilant about self care.
I firmly believe that you need to always protect yourself against getting too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired or Overwhelmed (HALTO). When allow ourselves to get into weakened mental states, we make poor emotional decisions and rarely make choices that are good for us or that move us forward closer to our future.
I challenge you to make a Self-Care Toolbox; basically a list of all the things that GIVE YOU ENERGY. These are things that relax you, refill you and help you feel refreshed. When your energy gets low or you start feeling the HALTO effect, refer to your toolbox and prioritize self-care.
