I live in a lot of gray areas, I notice. And, there’s a reason for that: if things are black and white, you have less wiggle room. You either succeed or fail, win or lose, do the right thing or the wrong thing. There’s not much space between black and white. You are ONE or the OTHER.
Wiggle room, that’s another name for bullshit. Bullshit lives in the gray area, doesn’t it? If it’s not black and white, you can convince yourself of some other truth… manipulate the reality of a situation a little.
I’m noticing that as I have the epiphanies on a regular basis, they all live in the black and white. The little lies I’ve told myself to cover them up, they live in the gray area. You know, they aren’t so much “lies” as they are a different version of the truth. OMG! That is such BS.
But distinguishing this gray area in your life is vitally important, because this is the place where the most failure lives. It’s the place we get stuck in and can’t get out. It’s the place where we can live being a victim of our circumstances and where we have no power.
I’m breaking up with the gray area in my life. It’s black and white for me baby? I know this will be hard, I’m going to miss that gray area terribly because the black and white really boxes you in and makes you responsible for having a great life.
But who doesn’t want a great life?
